Laws of Learning

There are certain Laws which I always followed in my journey of achieving Mastery in Persuasion.

I would like to share these Laws with my friends and colleagues who are working on their goals to achieve Mastery in their interested fields:

Understand how your mind learns.

  • Acquire and apply knowledge in small chunks.
  • Avoid Procrastination.
  • There is no such thing as rejection, its only feedback to your techniques applied.
  • Every rejection brings you closer to Perfection.
  • Its never your customer’s fault for not complying on your request.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to examine yourself and accept criticism without taking it personally.
  • Learn actively rather than passively.
  • It is very easy to learn the principles but the winner is who apply them immediately on the field.
  • Don’t rehearse negative outcomes. Always expect the Best but be prepared for the worst.
  • Master your emotions.

Have a Great Day !!

Mastering Skills can beat any competition

, , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The more and more the world is becoming digital and mechanical the more and more people are lacking important skills which are necessary to be acquired at competent level to live a better personal & professional life.

There are so many skills which can be learned for personal & professional development like:

  • Communication skills with public, fellow employees, supervisors and customers
  • Empathy
  • Listening and documenting
  • Reading, Writing & Speaking skills
  • Presentation kills
  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Computer skills
  • Time Management
  • Persuasion
  • Rapport Building
  • Lateral Thinking
  • Motivational skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Self-supervising
  • Leadership
  • Team Building
  • Courtesy
  • Selling skills
  • Cooperation
  • Networking
  • Martial Arts
  • Saving & Investment
  • Music, Dancing & Acting
  • Relationship Building
  • Friendship

And so many others as per individual interests.

As people are becoming more & more dependent on the system, they have started ignoring to acquire these skills because of which they are facing huge competition & frustration at their personal & professional level. Nowadays there are so many professions which are totally system dependent because of which people are almost working like robots and applying 0% creativity in their work.

Moreover, when they reach home after work, they got engaged in watching TV, listening news and other household activities because of which they have no time to assess their knowledge, skills and expertise therefore they have no clue where to improve or not. Their lack of competency has resulted into high vulnerability to those people who have mastered these skills.

I suggest, start watching people close to you and find out how many of them are having any specialized skill or expertise which is helping them in their personal & professional development. Also this assignment will help you in improving your observation skills.

Nowadays companies are facing huge competition, new challenges, rapid development in technologies, and that’s why these companies are approaching specific industry experts and consultants to get their problems solved and to become more competent.

I am surprised to see that even in some professions which are highly skill based like sales & marketing are also becoming so much system dependent that people are working like automatic robots as per program feed in their mind.

Cheers !!

3 Feet from Gold – a great inspirational story

, , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

One of the most common causes of Failure is the habit of QUITTING when one is overtaken by temporary defeat.

Few years ago, I read a book “Think and Grow Rich” which I must say is a holy book for millionaires. In the book, I read a great inspirational story of Mr. Darby.

The story of Mr. Darby has become a compelling story for me to NOT GIVEUP whenever I face a tough situation especially in sales and developing business.

In the story Mr. Darby, who was in search of Gold mine, sold everything to purchase equipments and machines which would be used in digging inside the mine. But while digging, he lost hope and give up at one point and sell all his equipments and machines to a local junk man.

The junk man who was a knowledgeable person took advice from experts and start digging further in search for gold.

After digging further 3 feet from the point where Mr. Darby stopped and left, the junk man found a huge mine of gold and became one of the richest people of that time.

The junkman took millions of dollars in ore from the mine, because he enough to seek expert counsel before giving up.

This incidence left a great impact on Mr. Darby who then became one of the best insurance salesman of all time selling more than a million dollars in life insurance annually because he said to himself:

“I stopped from 3 feet gold, but I will never stop whenever men say “NO” when I ask them to buy insurance.”

Before success comes in any person’s life, he is sure to meet with much temporary defeat and perhaps some failure. When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and most logical thing to do is to QUIT. That is what the majority of people do.

What I learned from this story as a Salesman is “one of the most important qualification of a salesman is to get a degree from a “University of Hard Knocks.”

Whenever I face any tough situation and a small monster thought comes in my mind of quitting,  I just recall this inspirational story and tell myself that might be I am just 3 Feet from Gold.

7 Basic Fears controlling our Life :

, , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

There are 7 basic fears which have a huge control in our life creating a big difference between achievers & quitters.
These 7 Basic Fears are :
•      Fear of Criticism.
•      Fear of Poverty.
•      Fear of Rejection.
•      Fear of Failure.
•      Fear of ill- health & old age.
•      Fear of Death.
•      Fear of loss of love of your Dear ones.
Everyone on this planet have these fears. If we don’t have these fears then we will be known as Super-Humans. We cannot ignore these fears. Also we can’t fight with these fears. But we can deal with these fears.
First of all we have to accept that these fears are very natural feelings.
Secondly, we must be consciously aware of these feelings that whenever any of these fears comes in our mind at any time of the day, it creates pain.
Now the point comes how to deal with these fears for our benefit.
1)   Fear of Death
Always keep in mind that all living beings on this planet have to die one day. We are not exceptional. Just think how you want to be remembered after death. Also start saving money & do some insurance so that your loved ones never fall short of money even after your death if you are the only earning member in your family.
2) Fear of Loss of Love of  Someone
My only advice is to give your unconditional love to others & you will never face any insecurity related to this fear.
3) Fear of Ill-Health & Old Age
Everyone has to become old one day. The only thing is how you keep yourself Fit & Healthy. Provide yourself a quality life in terms of quality food, hygiene environment & good mental state. Enjoy each moment & take it as a fun & new experience.
4) Fear of Criticism
This is one of the biggest fears which is stopping people to take ACTION. For example, what will others think about me? Others will make fun of me. Sometimes people become shy, introvert & conscious because of this fear. Also this fear creates jealousy & competitive nature in some people. I just want to share that some industries have grown & flourished because of this fear of criticism only like Fashion industry, Automobile Industry, Gadgets, Mobiles, Electronics, etc. But the biggest impact of this fear is that it stops people to take action to bring new change in their life. There is no such successful achiever on this earth who has never faced criticism in his or her life. Criticism comes along with success.
5) Fear of Rejection
This fear stops us to apply for new jobs, approaching new prospects in Sales, meeting strangers, proposing for marriage and above all making requests to others for compliance. Whenever this fear comes to your mind always remember that the person to whom you are approaching or making request, has also the same fear of rejection. If that person is somebody at higher position or superior to you in experience then just remember that during his initial struggle he has also faced same fear while approaching to strangers but then also he has taken the ACTION.
6) Fear of Failure
This is somewhat similar to fear of Rejection. Due to fear of failure we don’t take any initiative in our personal or professional life. Due to our bad past experiences, we start believing that we are destined to be failed whenever we go for new ideas, new challenges & new initiatives. I just want to tell you, start reading biographies of any successful person whom you like or model & just see how many times he has failed to reach at the top. According to the Great Edison whenever you failed in any task just reframe that failure, as a new learning from that experience that this is not the right procedure and you have to find a new way to do this task.
7) Fear of Poverty
For me, this is the most important fear. Especially for all those people who have lived a very mediocre life. This fear is one of the biggest reason people do not take challenges in their professional lives. This fear has lead to compromising of our dreams & childhood wishes. Everybody wants to become great leader, business tycoon, famous, celebrity, super rich, highly successful in their lives. But they doubt on their abilities, their qualifications, their knowledge, and their skills and think others are superior to them and therefore others deserve better jobs, higher income, luxuries, traveling across the globe, staying in luxurious hotels & resorts.
That’s why they are keep doing the same work, same job whole life just feeding their family, living in the same conditions &  telling their children its all depends upon your destiny whether you will be successful or not. They can never become role models for others. For me its better to take bigger challenges and earn more money so that I can help those people who are the part of weaker section of the society, who are helpless, who are not having even basic needs like Food, Shelter & Clothes, who are not having enough money to cure their illness & who already living below poverty line from the beginning.
And Last but not the least : FEEL THE FEAR & TAKE ACTION ANYWAY.

80/20 Rule in Selling – Pareto Principle

, , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

According to this Principle:
·         The top 20% of salespeople make 80% of money, and bottom 80% only make 20% of money.
·         Again Top 20% of the top 20%, which equals top 4%, earn 80% of money in the top 20% of salespeople.
·         Similarly, Top 20% of companies in an industry earn 80% of the profits.
One of the major reasons that Top Performers earn so much money is that they consistently follow Winning Edge Concept in their personal & professional life, that is, Small Differences in ability can lead to enormous differences in results.
The difference between Top performers and the average or mediocre performers is not a huge difference in talent or ability. Often, it is just a few small things done consistently and well, over and over again. Top Performers are completely focused and determined to achieve their goals. They have very strong beliefs on their capabilities to achieve their goals. They regularly work on their income generating skills. They modify old strategies and develop new strategies to achieve short-term and long-term goals.
And above all they believe and work on improving their performance every day.

Four Stages of Learning and Mastering a new Skill

, , , , , , , , , , , , ,

According to NLP there are Four Stages of Learning a new skill to become Master in that skill. Most of the times we are afraid of learning new skills and having doubt on ourselves whether we are having the abilities to learn the new skills. The reason might be your old beliefs about past experiences in which you have failed in 1st or 2nd attempt whenever you tried to learn that skill immediately or it can be your giving-up attitude as soon as you experience any failure in learning the new skill.
These skills can be as simple as driving the car, dancing, singing, painting, learning new languages, acting and can be as difficult as advance selling skills, persuading others to take action, martial arts, playing sports, film making, playing several types of musical instruments, negotiation skills and advance computer skills.
Now, I will share with you, how your mind learns so that you can achieve Mastery in your particular skills by following this process. Remember, nothing is impossible in this world. Its only a matter of mind game. You have to just follow the right process in order to condition your mind to learn that skill.
The psychological field of Neuro Linguistic Programming offers a useful Four Step model of how the mind learns. It can be served as a useful calibration tool to measure your progress in mastering the skill.
•  Unconscious Incompetence: You are doing something wrong and you don’t even know you are doing it wrong. Many people are not even bothered to know the right strategies to achieve a goal. Everyday they are performing the same task in same old pattern. Lack of awareness of right strategies is one of the biggest reasons in failing to achieve a goal in spite of doing so much hard-work.
•   Conscious Incompetence: Now you have consciously accepted that there is something wrong in the process. You are doing something wrong and you are aware that you are doing it wrong, but you haven’t yet fixed the problem. This is the first major breakthrough in achieving Mastery because at last you have recognized and accepted your previous mistakes. Very few people have so much courage to accept their limitations.
•  Conscious Competence: Now after learning new strategies and going through rigorous training program, you have learned the right way to do it, and you are doing it correctly with focused attention. For this, you have to do self-assessment about how you review yourself in perfection of that particular skill learned so far. Rate yourself 1 to 10 in each area, with 1 being completely deficient, 5 being average and 10 being perfect in the skill.
For example, you have started learning driving a car. So let’s divide the complete driving process into few steps.
•      Balancing the Steering wheel while driving.
•      Applying and removing clutch while gear shifting.
•      Shifting from Neutral to 1st gear, 1st to 2nd gear, 2nd to 3rd gear and so on as you pick up the speed.
•      Reverse gear driving.
•      Parking the car at exact position.
•      And most important, applying brakes at right time.
So you have to practice all these steps consciously in order to drive smoothly. In a matter of few days, you will be able to rate yourself in each step of driving skills. This is one of the simplest examples of learning new skills. If you are learning some difficult skills related to your profession or interest, try to break the whole process into very small steps and consciously practice each step. If you still find learning difficult try to break it into further smaller steps.
•   Unconscious Competence: Once you have consciously practiced the 3rd stage of Learning Process and review yourself thoroughly on that skill, now you no longer have to think about something or work on learning it – you automatically do it correctly. Just like unconsciously driving the car, your hands and legs are moving simultaneously; you can even listen music, follow traffic rules or talk to other passengers.
Your mind is now conditioned to follow whole process in an organized way. In this game of learning new skills, this is when you finally become a so-called natural.

Little Things Determine Sales Results

, , , , , , , , , , , , ,

In selling it’s the little things that make the big difference in making or missing the sale, just as the little things make the big difference in all areas of life. Our subconscious mind easily grabs these little things whenever any salesperson meets prospects.
The subconscious mind covertly compares our little qualities, behaviour, physical attributes, manners, features and mental states to other salespeople and awards us points for each superior feature in contrast with other salespeople. This point reward system is covertly done in prospect’s mind.
Consciously prospects are not even aware that they are comparing the salesperson to other salespersons. That’s why consciously they are not able to tell the salesperson how many points he/she has scored.
There is a difference in results when you have those little things working for you. Things like a nice watch; looking fit; a good shine on your shoes; the well pressed suit or dress; the neatness of your hair; the way your tie blends and is tied; whether you are neat and clean-shaven; whether the make-up is fresh and properly applied; caring for others; understanding others point of view; how you react in different situations; whether you are overdressed or underdressed; whether you are smiling and courteous; punctuality, thoughtful and considerate of your prospect’s time; whether you are smoking or chewing gum; whether you are organized and practice good human relations with follow-up reminders and thank-you notes; congruency; body language; presence of mind; ability to answer prospects questions; – and countless other little things that will mean missing or making the sale.
The list is endless, but in the final analysis, more often than not, one or more of the little things communicate to your prospect that you do believe in what you’re doing, that you are interested in serving him, that you do feel you’re offering the best product or service at the best price which will do the most for him and his needs. Each small thing matters when you meet your prospects.
When all of these things are going in favour of you, you will start earning more & more points from your prospects unconsciously as compared to your competitors and then the question is not “Will you succeed?” but rather “When, and how big will that success be?”
Each and every small step is important in sales and as the competition is getting tougher & tougher everyday with lots of similar products & services in market; now each small step has become crucial to win and lead the competition.
